‘Desert Storm Shootout’ Sizzles At Lake Havasu
The Desert Storm Charity Poker Run and Shootout Event for 2008 explode into a huge event, bringing more activities and fun than ever before! It continues to be a family oriented event with children welcome and is produced to enhance the performance-boater lifestyle and promote community involvement.
The Desert Storm event brings boaters from all over the United States to Lake Havasu City. City merchants have recognized the unique teams and families drawn by this event.
The city has opened up its arms to celebrate the event’s return by hosting a three-block-long street party on Thursday night. Boaters are encouraged to come out early to display their fantastic machines and enjoy the festivities!
This year, the poker run has been moved to Friday to relieve much of the weekend boater congestion encountered in past events. Having the poker run on Friday provides an opportunity to add a long-requested activity to our weekend.
A speed-trial shootout — patterned after the famous Lake Rescue Shootout of Lake of the Ozarks — will occur on Saturday. To even further the fun and excitement, the Pacific Offshore Professional Racing Association (POPRA) has placed us on their schedule and will be racing during a break in the Shootout action on Saturday (subject to change per Coast Guard Permit).
The event is themed to honor our men and women in military service, and participants are encouraged to bring an active service member or veteran as part of their crew. A portion of the poker run jackpot is to be donated to benefit the U.S. troops defending our country.
A great charity is chosen for the event to support and honor. Over the past nine years, our poker runs have donated over $54,000 to charity organizations affiliated with the Lake Havasu Community.
New Event Schedule
Thursday, April 24 — Street Party (all the boats are displayed on Main Street in Lake Havasu City)
Friday, April 25 — Poker Run
Saturday, April 26 — Shoot Out, LOTO Style!
Sunday, April 27 — POPRA “Offshore” Race
The Nautical Inn is now taking reservations for the 2008 event. Due to large demand for these rooms and non participants reserving them, in addition to the discounted room rate arranged by Lakeracer, a $100 deposit per room will be charged. This will be credited toward the Poker Run registration and the extra crew on the boat.
Hopefully this will allow more of the event participants to use the hotel — Nautical Inn 1-800-892-2141.
