Regattas Begin Lake Havasu Resurgence

For the first time in about a decade, a resurgence in summer regattas is returning to the shores of Lake Havasu.

“It’s picking up,” said Todd Taylor, owner of Jokers Wild Productions, who assists with the regattas. “We peaked with 22 regattas a year before the economy started to plunge in 2007 and 2008. Although we’re not back to that level yet, we’re starting to see interest again, and this summer we’ve had the most regattas on the schedule in nearly a decade.”

Regattas Cater To Participants

Typically, regattas cater more to participants rather than spectators, according to Taylor. Eliminator Boats and Ultra Custom Boats each hosted their own regattas in June. In addition to boat manufacturers’ regattas, a new regatta organizer coordinated an inaugural Tunnel and Friends Regatta, in June, that welcomed all tunnel-hull boats, in addition to any boat that was fewer than 26-feet.

Regattas Welcomed Back

As the fall temperatures begin to set in, Havasu will welcome back regattas for DCB Performance Boats, Campbell Boat, and Tilly Marine regattas, in addition to a planned new Avalon High Performance Pontoon Regatta.

“We are really focused on trying to bring unique regattas to the shores of Havasu during the summer weekends in 2018,” said Jackie Leatherman, director of Event Marketing for the Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s a great way to stop and to take a moment to recognize the uniqueness of all of the boat manufacturers that have been gracing our waters for so long.”
