The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kingman Field Office has increased
camping fees at three northwestern Arizona campgrounds.
Under the new rates the Burro Creek Campground individual sites are $14
per night and group site $50. Wild Cow Springs Campground individual sites
are $8 per night and group site $20. At Windy Point Campground individual
sites are $8 per night.
In 2009, the BLM Kingman published the Draft Kingman Amenity Fee Sites
Business Plan which detailed how fees have been spent in the past and how
the Kingman Field Office plans to use fee revenues in the future. The
Business Plan was made available to the public and the Arizona Resource
Advisory Council Recreation Subcommittee (made up of private citizens)
approved the increases in late 2009.
“Increasing camping fees is one of the least popular things we do,” said
BLM Kingman Resources Manager Jackie Neckels. “But, cutting services such
as supplying running water, garbage pickup, and offering dump stations – is
equally unpopular.”
“We’ve been able to hold fees at the same rate for eleven years,” Neckels
continued. “Increases in the costs of labor and fuel have finally forced
us to look at increasing the rates. Our new fee changes are commensurate
with fees charged at campgrounds with similar amenities within a 150-mile
radius of Kingman.”
