Thank You, AYC, For Another Success - Over $60,000 Raised For Blood-Cancer Research
A Letter From Cameron Childs - The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The recent Leukemia Cup Regatta, presented by Arizona Physicians IPA, at Lake Pleasant Harbor with the Arizona Yacht Club was a great success.
We had many compliments and I cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions and hard work as a club.
We were thrilled to have Gary Jobson join us for our Saturday evening dinner. Gary gave a fantastic presentation filled with humorous stories from his ESPN commentating, crash footage of boats breaking and sails exploding, and nail-biting finishes for the US Sailing Team.
Cheers echoed throughout the tent and "good luck topping THAT next year" was a frequently made comment. None of the other LLS events invites guests to watch a video in the dark for an hour and still have people hooting and hollering after 60 minutes! What fun we had!
Saturday night, 240 people joined us for dinner, and there were over 60 boats racing throughout the weekend. Rick D'Amico of Fox 10 did a fantastic job as our live auctioneer and, in the end, the Arizona Yacht Club raised over $60,000 for blood cancer research and patient aid.
Because of your efforts, we are continuing to gain ground toward cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and bring hope for patients and their families. Incredible strides have been made in battling these diseases but The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will not rest until cures are found.
Your involvement does not have to stop now.
You have until Nov. 1 to continue raising funds to qualify for the opportunity to sail with world-renowned sailor and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson, National Regatta Chairman, at the 2010 Fantasy Sail off the coast of Charleston, SC.
Special Thanks
Emory Heisler was the top fundraiser in 2010, raising nearly $15,000 since November. Chris Robertson will be joining Emory in Charleston, SC, this year for the 2010 Weekend Sail with Gary Jobson.
Also, a big thank-you to Michael Parker for putting on a phenomenal show. You were great to work with! Most importantly, we all know that the weekend wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of all of our volunteers.
Rachel Seelen of Urban Abstrakt Photography was the official photographer of the 2010 Regatta and did a phenomenal job. She hails from Tucson but is obviously happy to travel as far as Lake Pleasant to photograph events. Contact her at rachel@urbanabstrakt.com for your next event!
