Kingman, Ariz. At some point during late winter vandals destroyed the 100+
year-old Times Gulch miner’s cabin two miles west of Oatman, Arizona.
“Most people lived in tents or cabins made of wood,” said BLM
Archaeologist Craig Johnson. “Times Gulch cabin was historically
significant because it was one of the few miner’s cabins made of stone.”
Johnson added that what were 10-foot high walls were battered down to a
few feet high. The cabin was one of the most significant structures in the
Oatman Mining District.
The incident is under investigation. If anyone has any information about
the historic cabin destruction, please contact BLM Law Enforcement at (602)
679-8119.

The BLM manages more land – 256 million acres – than any other Federal
agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is
primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with
a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of
sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s multiple-use
mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for
the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau
accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation,
livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by
conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public
lands.
