Page, AZ – At 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, National Park Service divers
with
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area recovered the body of Mr. Robert
Prescott of St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Prescott was the last remaining
victim of the April 25th boating accident on Lake Powell that claimed the
lives of four persons.
Mr. Prescott was located using side scan sonar at a depth of 442 feet. His
body was recovered by park divers and a remote operated vehicle.
The April 25 accident occurred near Padre Butte on Lake Powell. The
incident began when Glen Canyon dispatch received a call of an overdue
boating party of six. A National Park Service ranger soon arrived on scene
and rescued two survivors who reported that their boat had swamped after
taking on water in a wind storm. Two deceased persons also were recovered
at that time.
The NPS immediately launched an intensive interagency search and rescue
operation for the two remaining missing boaters. The body of the fifth
victim was located and recovered on April 27. The search continued for Mr.
Prescott with the involvement of the Kane and San Juan counties’ Sheriff’s
Offices, Utah State Parks, and the Utah Department of Public Safety.
The NPS continues to search for the boat. The cause of the accident
remains
under investigation.
