Basic Hunter Ed Class Starts Sept. 6
A Basic Hunter Education class will be held at the Poston Jr. High auditorium (located at 2433 E. Adobe in Mesa) starting Tuesday, Sept. 6 and ending on Saturday, Oct 1.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. There is a required four-hour field day on Saturday, October 1 at the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club on Usery Pass Road.
SMART START -- At the Basic Hunter Education class, starting Sept. 6, students will learn many outdoor skills, including safe gun handling and marksmanship, game calling, compass reading, safety in the field, and fire starting (shown here), among others. The course is required for those 10-13 year-olds who wish to hunt big game in Arizona.
In-person registration will be held at the first class session (Sept. 6) from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Total cost for the class is $8.00. Checks should be made out to MHEIA. Please bring your Social Security Number or AZ Sportsman/Hunter ID number to registration.
Maximum basic class size is 250 persons. These classes are for all ages. Parents are encouraged to attend with their youth.
This class is required for all persons 10 - 13 years old to hunt big game in Arizona. Students must be at least 9 years old by graduation to be certified. It also qualifies the graduate for a permanent bonus point.
