PAGE, Ariz. — The National Park Service is soliciting public
comments on a proposal to add cellular telephone service to the
Bullfrog Marina, located within Glen Canyon National Recreation
Area.
Commnet Wireless, a wireless telecommunications provider, has
requested approval from the National Park Service to construct six
51-inch antennas on the exterior of the Defiance House Lodge.
Neither the antennas nor the associated equipment will have any
adverse effects on the area’s scenery or visual resources, as they
will not require construction of a cell tower. The antennas
would be located on the façade of the building and would not
visibly protrude above the Defiance House Lodge’s roof line.
The antennas would be painted to match the lodge’s color
scheme. In addition, a small fenced structure, matching
existing fencing, would be constructed next to the lodge to house
associated radio equipment.
Currently, there is no cellular telephone service in the
Bullfrog area, which receives more than 200,000 visitors each
year.
Additional information about the project is available at
parkplanning.nps.gov/glca. Comments may be submitted on that
Web site or mailed to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, P.O.
Box 1507, Page, AZ
86040. All comments must be received by Sept.18.
