October 2006

Fishing Has No Boundaries’ 2006 Event Is Here

When: Oct. 21 and 22 — Check-in 7-8 a.m. each day

Where: Lake Pleasant

Who: Anyone, with any type of disability, is eligible to participate.

What: Catch-and-release fishing! Fun time on the lake! Not a competition.

Cost: $50 per participant. Includes one free guest/attendant. Vets are free.

We’re excited to be holding our ninth annual event, and we’re hope you plan to attend. Here’s how you can help us:

  • Tell your friends — pass this info along to everyone you know.
  • Let us know of any possible sponsors for this event.
  • Become a member of FHNB, national organization (details at the event)

You'll supply your own transportation to and from Lake Pleasant both days, and a desire to have fun! Please arrive as early as possible.

If you need bathroom help, please bring an attendant or family member. Bring your own fishing gear, flotation device, and rain gear, if you have them. Don't forget sunglasses and sunscreen.

We'll supply the fishing equipment, boats (mostly pontoon boats), food, drinks, bait, hats, and guides. Fishing licenses are not required for our event, thanks to Arizona Game & Fish.

This fishing event is unique because we will be going out on the water, in boats, to do our fishing. If your disability will require special care, we ask that you let us know how we can best accommodate you, and we also encourage you to sign-up and bring along a guest/attendant.

We will have volunteers at the event to help load and unload the boats, prepare and serve the food, and help in many other ways. If you know anyone who would like to volunteer, please let us know.

Also, we are always looking for sponsors and contributors to make this great event take place — please pass along our information to people/businesses that might be interested in sponsoring us.

We are not able to supply transportation to and from the lake, so we ask that you make your own arrangements. Primitive camping is available at the lake but will not be part of our event. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Two reminders: This is a non-alcohol event. No pets or alcohol, please

We look forward to fishing with you!

Quick Facts

What is Fishing Has No Boundaries®, Inc.?

Fishing Has No Boundaries®, Inc. is an educational, non-profit, volunteer organization whose purpose is to open the great outdoors to all disabled persons through the world of fishing. It introduces educational devices to aid the disabled angler and creates an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie via people-helping-people annual fishing events.

Our Arizona chapter is one of approximately 17 chapters nationwide, and our events take place at Lake Pleasant. In addition to our extremely successful yearly events, the Arizona chapter also has a unique outreach program where we take disabled individuals, along with family members, out for a one-on-one fishing adventure.

This program is offered free of charge. Additionally, we often assist city and nursing home recreation groups to enjoy fishing trips.

Who is eligible to participate in Fishing Has No Boundaries®?

Any disabled person is eligible to participate in an event, regardless of disability. There are absolutely no restrictions as to type of disability, age, race, gender, state of residence, or any other factors. All are welcome.

Most events have a maximum number of participants due to limited space and the number of volunteers. We continue to increase the numbers of participants as each event expands its financial and volunteer base.

What type of help are we looking for?

We are a non-profit, volunteer organization requiring donations, sponsors, grants, and volunteers to remain viable. If you are interested in helping us in any of those areas, we would be happy to hear from you.

  • Volunteers are needed for help in all areas, ranging from help with parking, loading participants into boats, preparing food, setup and takedown of the facilities and just about everything in between.
  • Donations of money, goods or services will be necessary to make this event possible. Our expenses will include fuel, insurance, tent rental, sanitary facilities, food, beverages, medical equipment, T-shirts, goodie-bags for participants, and office expenses, to name a few.
  • Sponsors will be an important aspect of our event. We are looking for major corporate support, so we may continue to expand this program each year. We’d also like sponsors who could help participants by paying their $50 participation fee. We plan to receive major media coverage for this positive event.
