PAGE, Ariz. – Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is
considering increasing camping fees at Lone Rock, Lees
Ferry, and other primitive camping areas within the
park. The proposed fee increases would go into effect
beginning in summer 2007.
This would be the first camping-fee increase at Lees
Ferry and primitive camping areas since 1997. Camping
fees would increase as follows:
Location |
Current Camping Fee |
Proposed Camping Fee |
Lone Rock |
$8 per site per night |
$10 per site per night |
Lees Ferry |
$10 per site per night |
$12 per site per night |
Primitive camping areas (including Stanton Creek,
Bullfrog North and South, Farley Canyon, and Dirty
Devil) |
$6 per site per night |
$6 per person, with a maximum fee of $12 per
vehicle per night |
Camping fees provide a vital source of revenue to
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The funds
collected from camping fees stay within the park and are
used directly for critical improvements in the services
provided to visitors.
This year, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is
using money from entrance and camping fees to replace
the Lees Ferry campground RV dump station, to inventory
and monitor campsites along the San Juan River, to
replace the fish-cleaning station at Wahweap, to control
invasive, non-native plant species, to replace the Lees
Ferry orientation facility for whitewater rafters on the
Colorado River, to renovate historic buildings at Lees
Ferry, and to rehabilitate and refurbish signs
throughout the park.
Fee increases are based on a study of comparable
sites in the surrounding area to ensure that increases
are appropriate and competitive with current market
conditions. Holders of Golden Age (for U.S. residents
age 62 and over) and Golden Access (for permanently
disabled U.S. residents) passes would continue to
receive a 50 percent discount on camping fees.
