Arizona Yacht Goes Trans-PacificEditor, Two prominent members of Arizona Yacht Club are flat out getting after it. Objective: sail fast, double-handed, from Los Angeles to Honolulu as part of the Transpacific Yacht Race 2007. Al Lehman, AYC commodore 1980-81, and Al Lehman Jr., AYC Fleet champion for seven consecutive years — 1991-97 — plan to do just that with the AYC burgee flying high. Strapping on a Fast 40 named Narrow Escape , starting July 12 in the second start, these gentlemen, representing the desert dwellers of the AYC, plan to "escape" to the front of the double-handed class of the Transpacific Yacht Race 2007. The Transpacific Yacht Club is organizing send-off festivities for the 2007 Transpac from July 7 to the 15. If you'll be in LA or thinking of a trip to escape the heat, go to Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach to enjoy the festivities and support these fellow AYC members in "livin' the vision." Fair winds and sail fast gentlemen; our thoughts and prayers will be with you.
