AYC Plans Birthday, Leukemia Cup Regattas
Submitted By Dennis Martinelli
The Arizona Yacht Club’s 46th Annual Birthday
Regatta/Leukemia Cup Regatta will be held the weekend of Jan. 13-15.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the club’s chosen outreach
charity as their way to give back to a program to help others.
As we are blessed with our lives, we are fortunate to be in a position
to help others. AYC started supporting The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society eight
years ago in conjunction with the Birthday Regatta. Approximately every
nine minutes, a child or adult dies from leukemia, lymphoma, or melanoma.
Everything we do to help can and does make a difference.
This is a great sailing event, featuring sailors from around the
country to sail at Lake Pleasant in Peoria, Ariz. The Buccaneer class
hosts its Western Championships.
The newest one-design class is the Merit 25, which expects at least 10
boats for this class. Other one-design classes include the growing Santana
20 fleet, a great Catalina 22 fleet, Ultimate 20s, J 24 fleet, PHRF Spin,
PHRF Non-Spin, Lasers, and Portsmouth classes.
After the sailboat racing Saturday, the party of the year begins —
great music, dinner, bustling bar, and hundreds of people having a great
time. There is a silent as well as live auction.
We will auction off some spectacular prizes with proceeds benefiting
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In addition, there is a raffle with so
many prizes that nearly everyone will walk away with something.
Additional information and entry forms can be found on the home page of
the award-winning Web site,
