Nautical Inn was once again the host hotel
for the 23rd Annual Western Outdoor News Striper Derby.
With 306 teams registered in the Striper Derby this year,
20 tagged fish were placed in the lake with prizes ranging
from an Alaskan vacation to the Nautical Inn tagged fish of
$10,000.
One tagged fish was caught this year. Anglers come
nationwide for a two-day cumulative weight competition.
The biggest fish caught weighed in at 14.35 pounds with a
net cash reward of $1,500. The first-place team took home
prizes in the amount of $5,600.
Awards are given to teams placing first through 15th
place.
The Western Outdoor News Striper Derby is the "...biggest
striped bass tournament in the West," According to
tournament director Bill Hutcheson because Lake Havasu has
an abundant population of fish, just about everybody can
catch one.
